Dear Parents / Guardians,

We hope you are all well and children are settling into their new classes.

Learning outdoors

We will regularly be learning in the outdoor environment, however, Monday will be our designated slot where children will need to bring appropriate clothing. Children will already be dressed in their PE kits, therefore, they will only require wellies and a waterproof coat. Please can these be put in a named carrier bag, they will be sent home at the end of the day. No rucksacks please. The first outdoor session will be on Monday 28th September.

Reading

A separate letter has been sent via parent mail regarding reading. A reading book and record will be sent home on a Friday. These need to be returned every Wednesday. Daily readers will only need their book on a Wednesday, but will read daily in class.

Homework

Homework will be set via google classroom every Friday and will need to be submitted by the following Thursday. This will begin on the 25th September.

Spelling

Children are currently being assessed, a further letter about this will be sent via google classroom shortly.

Fruit

If your child wishes to have a snack at playtime, please be advised that they can only have fruit or vegetables. No yogurt, cereal bars etc.

Please can we remind you that we are trying to minimise the items that the children bring in from home. We have had a number of teddies, jewellery, small toys etc. brought in lately. Please can children refrain from doing this in the current climate.

Our Topic for this term is Big Wide World

This project has a geography focus and teaches children about a contrasting location overseas and how it may have similarities and differences to the place in which they live.

At the heart of this project children learn to write simple reports and learn additional skills of sentence writing and explanation. In the Innovate Stage children apply their skills and understanding by creating digital postcards of their locality.

In this project the children will learn:

• To use geographical and research skills;

• To find out about their locality and a contrasting locality overseas;

• To compare factors such as weather, geographical features, population and lifestyle;

• To use ICT and other skills to collect and store information including maps and data;

• To present information in a variety of ways, including ICT.
