School Council

Welcome to our School Council

At Pontybrenin, we are proud to have strong pupil voice throughout school. In order for this to happen, we have our own school council. School Council members applied for their posts in September and were elected by their classmates. All pupils have the opportunity to raise and share issues and take part in discussions that involve all of their peers in reaching a democratic solution. Ideas from these discussions are fed back to their school council representatives and discussed during regular meetings. Pupils in Pontybrenin know that this is their school and their thoughts and ideas matter. The School Council deliver many assemblies throughout the year to keep the school up-to-date on the many important decisions they make.

Some of our achievements in school

Raising Money for Charity:

The School Council plan all of our special days when we raise money for many charities including, Children in Need, Red Nose Day and many more including local charities. In the past, the children have decided on fancy dress, planned and prepared cake sales and even sold special face painting tattoos designed by the children.

Making Healthier Choices:

The school council wrote a letter to our cooking staff in order to improve the children’s balanced diets. The children complimented the cooking staff on their range of healthy meals, but felt that the drinks could be improved. They felt that the cooking staff could save money by offering milk and water instead of squash. The children felt that this would help to reduce children’s sugar intake and help our teeth stay healthy and strong.

Developing the Curriculum:

The School Council have been helping the teaching staff introduce the new curriculum that is being introduced across Wales. They have specifically looked at the Four Purposes and designed and made some comic strips showing how these elements could be seen throughout Pontybrenin.
